Our approach

A natural approach is at the heart of learning. Wherever possible, Green Roots is all about fresh ideas and natural, real-life resources. Our formula is fresh air and exercise, good food, good sleep (when necessary) and good fun.

Natural learning

We support each child’s individual needs to help them learn and grow by providing them with time, space and inspiring resources to thrive in a happy and positive environment. We also work with parents to ensure mutual support in caring for their child. 

Our expectations and clear, achievable boundaries encourage positive behaviour so that children will be courteous to one another, enabling them to make good friends and develop empathy. We endeavour to look at things from the child’s point of view, to empathise with them and allow them to achieve their own identity. This helps them learn good social manners, that grow strong roots for their future. 

Our ethos

Our roots are based on a holistic approach to childcare that involves the whole family. The first few years of a child’s life are so important so that they can develop strong roots. At Green Roots, we believe immersing children into a fascinating world with stimulating activities and experiences, encourages a powerful and lifelong love of learning. 

There are no boundaries to the imagination and our outdoor play makes us wonderfully different. Fresh air and exercises supports healthy physical development, team building and social situations, so we provide the freedom for children to explore outside.

Adventure school

The outdoors is fully of endlessly exciting discoveries for children, so we designed our facilities to be enjoyed by all ages and at all times of the year! Our Adventure School combines fascinating elements of the natural world into everyday life at Green Roots. Children can grow plants and vegetables and explore the multi sensory experiences of the play equipment, surfaces and resources in our gardens. 

In the past, we’ve hatched our own chicks, had visits from farm animals and watched caterpillars turn into butterflies. We also organise regular outings so that the children can learn about the importance of nature and the environment, while visiting a new place. Our pre-school children enjoy going to Prinsted beach to learn about the natural marine world. We also go to: Dell Quay Harbour Education Centre, Peter Ashley Activity Centre, Tuppenny Barn, the library, post office and the Southbourne Farm Shop.
