Finances & fees
-
Is the registration fee a deposit and given back when the child leaves?
The registration fee is a one-off fee retained by Green Roots. It is not a refundable deposit as it covers the Welcome Pack and registration fees. In addition, it guarantees a place for the child and allows some flexibility on the start date.
-
Do I pay for sessions my child does not attend?
Yes, however we offer you the ability to swap the session to an alternative date. See Green Roots Swapping Sessions Policy for more information.
-
How do you offer government funded sessions and is there any other support in paying childcare costs?
We offer funded hours throughout the year. See Green Roots Free Entitlement Policy for full information.
You can also check what support you are eligible for by going onto the government child care calculator using the following link: https://www.gov.uk/childcare-calculator, or get further information from: https://www.childcarechoices.gov.uk

Can my child go to Green Roots if I don’t have a contract with you?
Yes, we have ad hoc sessions available at a premium.
-
Do you offer Term Time only places?
No, we do not offer term time only, as we believe the break in routine for long periods of time can be unsettling at this young age. Please view our sessions.
-
Can I give a rough estimation of my child’s start date and get in touch with you nearer the time, or do I have to give you an exact date?
You can provide us with your best guess date, and we can also bring the start date forward subject to availability. However, we require at least 8 weeks notice to reduce sessions or delay the start.
You are allowed to change this once with no charge, however, if changed a second time then please refer to clause 6.4 in your contract for information about relevant charges.
Health
-
Can my child still attend their session if they are unwell?
When children are unwell, they usually need more one-on-one care in a quiet environment and it is therefore not in the child’s best interest to be in a busy childcare setting. We also want to minimise the risk of spreading illnesses to other children. We ask that you refer to our policies and the Public Health England Guidance on Infection Control in Schools and other Childcare settings for more detailed information.
If your child may have been infected with Covid-19, please read our policy here.
-
If we administer Calpol are we allowed to give a second dose 4 hours later or is it just one dose?
We will administer the medicine in line with the instructions (dose and frequency) and expiry date on the bottle, subject to written parental consent. See Green Roots Medication Policy for more information.
Learning & development
-
How do you support children with additional needs or a disability?
We are a fully inclusive setting and have had training and experience caring for children with a range of needs. For more information, please read our Local Offer.

Do Green Roots offer “Baby Led Weaning”?
The essence of Baby Led Weaning is no purees or mashed foods, and the baby eats the “normal menu” right from the start of weaning. The jury is still out on this method with the main issue of concern being the potential choking hazard.
Parents need to understand that unlike at home where the baby is fed on a one to one basis, in a nursery context, this is not possible and the team in the baby room are not confident they would be able to prevent any issues. Following discussions with you, we will be able to agree the most suitable menu and how best to service the meal to your baby.
-
Can I leave my buggy/ car seat at Green Roots when I drop my child off in the morning?
Due to our new Covid-19 policies and limiting the contact of people coming in and out of the building, no pushchairs, buggies or car seats can be left at Green Roots.

Why do we not cover the sandpits?
Covering sandpits with tarpaulin creates a hazard of pooling water and covering them with a hard cover creates an issue for storing the lid when they are in use. We rake the sandpits each night and remove any soiled sand each morning (which would be easily visible), as well as use sonic animal repellents when the sandpit is not in use.
