Green Roots Nursery & Pre-School

Pre-School

At Green Roots, we strive to equip Pre-school children with the confidence and readiness to begin school in September. In this age group, it’s especially important for children to learn and play independently, expanding their knowledge and curiosity of the world, as well as learning with other children to further develop their social skills.

What makes us different?

Meals & nutrition

Introducing flavours from around the world means every mealtime is an opportunity to learn, and not just about the food. Mealtimes are sociable and fun, with healthy balanced meals and creative menus that help children develop an interest in what they are eating.

Free flow play

We embrace outdoor play and the design of our nursery reflects this. With our huge adventure garden and baby and toddler garden, both with large covered decking areas, our facility is second to none and an exciting place for children to be.

Staff to child ratio

Our ratio of staff to children not only allow us to pay specific attention to every child’s individual needs, but also ensures that we have eyes on the children at all times. Our entrances have secure locking systems and biometric scanning so that everyone remains safe in the building.

Learning & development

From age 3 to 5, children are becoming more comfortable expressing themselves using words and are growing in confidence. They have more self-control and are more attentive, relying less on others and becoming more independent. With finer motor skills and enquiring minds, the world and all its incredible mysteries are there to be explored… and of course, endlessly questioned!

We encourage self-confidence and give Pre-schoolers the freedom to spark and explore their individual interests. Our greatest pleasure is seeing children in our pre-school get real enjoyment out of learning, so that when they start school, they are self-assured and raring to go. Our learning activities are the perfect combination of fun, while also being tailored to enhancing necessary cognitive and behavioural skills.

School readiness programme

From January, we start preparations to support a smooth transition for all children joining school in September. Our School Readiness Programme, ensures the children are holistically ready for the new and exciting challenges of attending school. Our program focuses on school-related topics, which will encourage group discussion so the children know what to expect when they start school. We strive to support the children with their self-help skills, decision making skills, and expression of thoughts and opinions.

We also have special focus activities that give the children a fantastic opportunity to further develop skills in areas such as Literacy and Maths. Small groups of children take part in wonderful activities that enhance their learning on a more personalised level. This method gives the children a more hands-on, one-on-one approach at learning with more attention and the ability for us to focus on their individual needs.

At Green Roots, our approach to learning and hands-on activities equip the pre-school children with the right cognitive and social skills, as well as the knowledge and preparedness to enter their next exciting chapter of attending school in September.

Outings & day trips

Learning is further explored through regular outings and day trips. The children enjoy going to Prinsted beach, where the activities are designed to enhance their fascination with the natural environment and marine world.

We also go on outings to: Dell Quay Harbour Education Centre, Peter Ashley Activity Centre, Tuppenny Barn, Library, Post office, and the Farm Shop. A variety of local destinations allow the children to immerse themselves in new environments and experience the local community.

Our outings give the children the opportunity to experience real life scenarios, sparking their interest in learning about things outside of a Pre-school setting, further heightening their curiosity about the world.

A home from home environment

Indoor spaces

We have designed a welcoming and comforting environment at Green Roots so children can feel at home. As children go through the “into everything” phase, their interest and confidence grow, as their mobility, dexterity and language improve. We help this development by providing purpose-built, age relevant furniture, toys and resources so their learning can flourish.

From ICT to role play, exciting activities or quieter areas, we have created a variety of different options so that children can choose where and how they want to learn.

Outdoor spaces

Outdoor play and fresh air are the basic principles of what makes Green Roots truly a “green” and different experience. We provide opportunities at every turn for children to go outdoors to play and explore. Our imaginatively created garden has play equipment, different surfaces and resources so there is always plenty to do.

In our Blooming Schools award winning garden, children will also grow plants and vegetables with us, providing in itself a wonderful multi-sensory experience.

Keeping you informed 24/7

Securely accessed diaries are essential for parents. We use an online system provided by Baby’s Days, which give parents access to 24/7 daily diaries and learning journeys.

You will be able to securely log on to access information and photos from your child’s day as well as being able to add comments or send messages through the system.

This easy, visible sharing of information ensures that we work in partnership with you as part of our holistic, family centered approach, which we believe provides the best care for your child.

Being online not only helps the environment, but also means that your child’s information is available to you 24/7 from anywhere in the world. The system meets all security regulations and we are registered with data control so you can be assured that your information is secure.
