Our Team

Teamwork

We want our team to enjoy coming to Green Roots and to have an enthusiastic and warm attitude when they care for your child.  We believe that a great childcare centre and a great place to go to work go together and so we strive to employ the best team, who have been carefully chosen, vetted and security checked to ensure your child receives the best care.

We expect a lot from our team and in return we offer a continuous training and development programme, a lovely setting to work in with rewards and incentives.

Our annual team survey, which can be taken anonymously, gives every colleague the chance to voice their opinions and suggestions.

Our Managers hold a Designated Safeguarding Qualification and are qualified First Aiders. It is our aim that 100% of our team are pediatric first aid qualified.

In addition to this, our team have access to training courses through West Sussex Council and external trainers who train our team on site on a variety of topics.  All staff undertake online training on subjects including Health & Safety, Fire Safety, Safeguarding, Moving & Handling and Food Hygiene.

Manager – Gemma Lawson

“I was delighted to open Green Roots Nursery in September 2013. I’ve always been passionate about childcare and I wanted to set up a nursery that was exceptional in terms of the nurturing care and attention that it gave to the children and also the service that it provided for parents.  As an accredited childminder for many years,  I learnt the importance of understanding each child’s individual needs and the benefits of providing each child with the opportunity to have real life experiences and be active indoors and out.

As a parent myself I recognise the challenges of trying to balance all aspects of family life and we’re determined to help all of parents with this by making things as easy and convenient as possible.”  Gemma

Deputy Manager and Pre-School Leader – Averil Rossiter

“Ever since I started volunteering at my own children’s nursery many, many years ago (!), I have always wanted to play a part in children’s education, especially in Early Years. I feel very passionately about caring for and nurturing their early growth, learning and development.  I believe working at Green Roots with a fantastic and dedicated team has enabled us to provide the children with the foundations for the best possible start in life.  Personally, I simply love playing and spending time with the children as well as being surprised, tickled and amazed every single day by all the things they say and do!” Averil

Explorer Leader – Charlotte Croucher

“I worked in childcare before joining Green Roots when it opened in 2013.  I have enjoyed being part of the nursery and supporting its growth from day one.  I love seeing how the children grow and develop, forming their individual characters and learning to crawl then walk.  I also really enjoy the relationships we build with the children and their families.” Charlotte

Adventure Leader – Lauren Woznicki

“Nurturing, supporting and looking after children has always been a passion of mine.  I thoroughly enjoy teaching the children and learning from them every day.  Green Roots creates a secure, happy and nurturing environment for all children and this really shows through their progression from babies until they are ready for school.  The garden area in particular holds a wide range of thought provoking and fascinating activities for the children which is great to be part of.” Lauren

Environment Coordinator/Adventure School Leader– Annamie Swart

“I really enjoy working at Green Roots and being part of a great team.  The best part of my role is organising outings and watching children draw closer to nature.  At first the children do not want to get dirty but by the time we leave they are covered in mud.  Watching children grow into who they are is the most rewarding part of my day.” Annemie

Chef – Rury Clark

“My years of being Chef in nursing homes, restaurants, hotel and nursery, have given me the skills to prepare delicious meals from fresh ingredients.

I truly believe you are what you eat and feel passionate about children having the best start.  From an early age, I believe children should be encouraged to eat a variety of food as they then become more adventurous with food.

I really enjoy cooking activities with the children where they want to learn so much and are curious of the different tastes, textures and colour. I try to ensure they continue this passion with the food I provide them.  At Green Roots so many resources are provided; the children’s needs are paramount and there are no limits for the children.” Rury
