  1. Which formula milk do we supply?

SMA & Aptimal. We’d be happy to use another brand of formula milk if you would like to provide this. Green Roots will only use formula from a sealed container. Once opened, a team member will write the date of opening on the container and will use it up to but not after the manufacturer’s expiration date.

  1. Is the registration fee a deposit and given back when the child leaves?

The registration fee is a one-off fee retained by Green Roots. It is not a refundable deposit, it covers the Welcome Pack and registration. In addition it guarantees a place for the child and allows some flexibility on start date.

  1. Can I give a rough estimation of my child’s start date and get in touch with you nearer the time or do I have to give you an exact date?

You can give us your best guess date then bring the start date forward subject to availability date however we require at least 8 weeks notice to reduce the sessions or delay the start.  You are allowed to change this once with no charge, should you change it a second time refer to clause 6.4 in your contract for information about relevant charges.

  1. If we administer Calpol are we allowed to give a second dose 4 hours later or is it just one dose?

We will administer the medicine in line with the instructions (dose and frequency) and expiry date on the bottle and subject to written parent consent. See Green Roots Medicines Policy for full information.

  1. Can a child do more than 2 settles? If they do are they charged?

A child gets 2 free settles of approximately 1 hour each. If they need additional settles they are charged at the half day or full day rate depending on how long the settles are.

6. Why do we not cover the sandpits?

When we first developed our outdoor areas, we sought advice, on the best method to keep the sand clean and safe, it is recommended to rake them each night and remove any soiled sand each morning (which would be easily visible) and use sonic animal repellents when the sand pit is not in use.  Covering sandpits with tarpaulin creates a hazard of pooling water and covering them with a hard cover creates an issue for storing the lid when they are in use.

  1. Do Green Roots offer “Baby Led Weaning”

The essence of Baby Led Weaning is no purees, no mashed foods- the baby just eats the “normal menu” right from the start of weaning. The jury is still out on this method with the main issue of concern for Green Roots being the potential choking hazard this method may create. Parents needs to understand that unlike at home where a baby is fed on a one to one basis, in a nursery context, this is not possible and the team in the baby room are not confident they would be able to prevent any issues. Following discussions with you we will be able to agree the most suitable menu and how best to serve the meal to your baby.

  1. Can I use Green Roots if I don’t have a contract with you?

We do have adhoc sessions available at a premium.

  1. Can I leave my buggy / car seat at Green Roots when I drop my child off in the morning?

Yes, you may leave your buggy or car seat in the porch.

  1. Do I pay for sessions my child does not attend?

Yes, however we offer you the ability to swap the session to an alternative date (swapping sessions click to open document)

  1. How do you offer government funded sessions and is there any other support in paying childcare costs?

We offer funded hours throughout the year, for more information please see the Free Entitlement document (Free Entitlement 2017 Click to open document).  You can also check what support you are eligible for by going onto the government child care calculator using the following link https://www.gov.uk/childcare-calculator or get further information from government childcare choices website https://www.childcarechoices.gov.uk/

  1. How do you support children with additional needs or a disability?

We are a fully inclusive setting and have had training and experience caring for children with a range of needs for more information about how we provide care please read our Local Offer Green Roots Local Offer Oct 16

  1. Do you offer Term Time only places?

We do not offer term times only as we believe the break in routine for long periods of time can be unsettling at this young age.

  1. Can my child still attend their session if they are unwell?

When children are unwell they usually need more 1:1 care in a quiet environment and it is therefore not in the child’s best interest to be in a busy childcare setting, we also want to minimise the risk of spreading illnesses to other children. We ask that you refer to our Illness and Injury policy (Open) and the Public Health England – Guidance on Infection Control in Schools and other Childcare settings (Open) for more detailed information.
